Overlooked
“There are the things that are out in the open, and there are the things that are hidden.
The real world has more to do with what is hidden.”
- Saul Leiter
And there are the things that are things that are out in the open, but we don’t see.
- Carl Shubs
“You see beauty and interest in things that totally escape me until you point them out.”
– Barbara S.
This series focuses on things we ignore or don’t even notice because we see them as mundane, including: 1) objects typically disregarded and unrecognized as worthy subjects of art, 2) things that are overlooked but deserve appreciation for their graphic elements, and 3) things we pass by or even step over yet are worthy subjects because of their abstract qualities. Within this last group are photos taken in well-known galleries, and most are reflections off the floor of the gallery. Naturally, some of the images may overlap these categories (see In the Gallery) .
I find all of these aesthetically interesting when focused on, captured, and presented with the eye of a street photographer. The images are composed and presented with a formality and precision more typical of fine art than vernacular photography.
Captured in camera. Not set up. No Photoshop compositing.
